Cannabis-Assisted Psychedelic Therapy (CAPT)

Do you want to safely explore what psychedelic journey-work has to offer?

Your friends are going to Costa Rica and taking ayahuasca. Or trying out holotropic breathwork. Or you keep reading in the New York Times “psychedelics can treat depression and trauma just as well as pharmaceuticals.”

You’ve tripped a few times when you were younger… maybe recently at Red Rocks Amphitheatre… and perhaps it was fun. Or perhaps it was actually quite upsetting and you thought, “I’m never touching that stuff again.”

Your neighbor said they are microdosing magic mushrooms and you’re wondering what the heck that is all about.

You’ve done years of talk therapy. But it still feels like something is stuck or unresolved. Or you are just sick of talking things to death and want a bigger or more significant healing experience. To shake something loose.

You’ve read Michael Pollan’s “How to Change Your Mind” and “This Is Your Mind on Plants” and are now on the hunt for your own psychedelic therapist!

Whatever your story, something has piqued your interest in the newest wave of the psychedelic movement. You are curious- yet hesitant. Interested to learn more but want to make sure you are still being wise and safe.

You are in the right place.

I’m Kate Nesterwitz and I can help you on your journey. I am a Licensed psychotherapist, here in the West Denver and Wheat Ridge border neighborhood of the Denver Metro, who has been practicing traditional clinical psychotherapy for the last 10 years.
And like you, the psychedelic movement has captivated my interest.

I could sense that a psychedelic experience offered something richer and deeper than traditional talk therapy. And I was right.

But also like you, something about the bigger psychedelic experiences intimidated me. Ayahuasca, mescaline, psilocybin, MDMA, LSD. Those are BIG experiences. Profound in some ways- very difficult in other ways. Plus- they are illegal! What a big risk!

Enter: Psychedelic Cannabis!! Cannabis you say? Weed? That’s not a psychedelic!!! ….Or is it?

As a fully-trained psychedelic therapist, Cannabis is my go-to plant medicine. Cannabis IS a classic psychedelic and rivals the experiences and healing capacities of the previous mentioned psychedelics. It is highly accessible here in Denver and best of all, legal!

I can skillfully guide you through a cannabis experience, tapping into its positive healing effects while providing a safe, structured environment.

Cannabis journeys and healing sessions have many benefits.

1. Full control and agency!

It is very gentle and you keep FULL agency over yourself… what I mean is you will keep your wits about you! You won’t blast off to outer space (unless you choose to!) If you’re like me, this is appealing. I still want to be myself and maintain some control.

2. There is no legal risk!

Cannabis is fully legal in the state of Colorado. And it’s fully legal for me to sit with you and guide you through an experience as a licensed therapist. (I won’t imbibe during our sessions as to keep you safe and because therapists never get high with clients!)

3. The journeys are shorter.

I offer 3 or 5 hour experiences. Verses the 6-12 hours you’d be high on other psychedelics. Same big experience- much less of a time commitment.

4. Cannabis gives you a BIG and beautiful experience.

You can heal trauma, wake up to your potential, reconnect with your body, face your demons, fly through space, heal ancestral wounds, practice meditation, and deeply relax. It’s all available to you.

5. You can even heal your relationship to cannabis.

Many of us can have a bit of history with this medicine. Caught by parents. Shamed for using it. Stereotyped. War on Drugs and Reefer Madness residue. Or maybe you haven’t enjoyed cannabis for a long time because now it makes you feel anxious or edgy. It just isn’t any fun anymore. I can help you heal your relationship with this medicine in a calm and controlled environment.

6. Last and most importantly-

Cannabis can be a great introduction to plant medicines of all kinds. Let this medicine help you get comfortable with the feeling of a psychedelic journey in a contained, therapeutic space.

Let’s call it 101: Intro to Plant Medicine in Ceremony.

A cannabis journey allows you to learn new skills in what we formally call a “non-ordinary state of consciousness.”
Practice getting comfortable in an altered state. Learn skills that help you navigate and explore what these states have to offer.
All while feeling in control and highly supported by me as your guide and therapist!

Are you in?!

CAPT Offerings: Journeys + Intensives

1. Cannabis-Assisted Psychedelic Therapy (CAPT): 3 or 5 hr Journey

This is the big work! This is a one-on one journey with me. I will guide you through an imbibing ceremony using a Pax vaporizer or your preferred smoking method depending on location.

I invite you to lay down with and eye-shade and begin to go inward, creating a relationship with your inner world. I will play carefully curated music for your particular needs.

I am there every step of the way to provide safety, grounding, guidance, and support as material arises. This material can be images, thoughts, body sensations or pain, emotions, memories, and energetic sensations. You can be as talkative or quiet as you need based on what is coming up.

In this setting, I use both my trauma-resolution training as a psychotherapist in tandem with my psychedelic therapy training to help move about the unique, interesting, imaginative spaces our mind can go in this altered state.

Three-hour sessions benefit those just beginning the work, sensitive to the medicine, or wanting to use this space for maintenance and ongoing self-exploration.

Five-hour sessions benefit clients with clinical concerns regarding developmental trauma (difficult childhoods) or acute trauma (one or two terrible events). It also is great for experienced journeyers and folks with advanced meditation practices.

Financial investment: $150 per hour so…
1. $450 for 3 hour journey
2. $750 for 5 hour journey

2. CAPT Intensive

This is a newer model in the psychotherapy field called “intensives” which is more a retreat style intervention. A CAPT intensive involves more than one journey done in a shorter period of time. The first journey usually evokes a lot of material and the second one resolves it.

Example models for an intensive could be but are not limited to:

5 day CAPT Intensive:
1. consultation and schedule the intensive
2. 1 hr Prep session- Tuesday
3. 5 hour journey- Wednesday afternoon
4. 1 hr Integration session- Thursday
5. 5 hour journey Friday afternoon
6. 2 hour integration/debrief session Saturday morning.

15 clinical hours= $2,250

3 day CAPT Intensive
1. Consultation and schedule intensive
2. 1 hr prep- Wednesday morning
3. 3 hr journey- Wednesday afternoon
4. 1hr integration- Thursday morning
5. 3 hr journey- Thursday afternoon
6. 1 hr integration Friday morning.

9 clinical hours= $1350

This model benefits folks who:
-are in from out of town
-have some time off work
-don’t want to do weekly psychotherapy for a year
-people craving a container to address trauma and want to make significant headway
